The Home Office has released its formal consultation document regarding the alcohol measures in the Coalition Programme for Government. The main proposals within the consultation include: -allowing local authorities to consider the views of the wider community, not just those living close to premises;
-doubling the fine to £20,000 for those found persistently selling alcohol to children;
-extension of voluntary premises closures following underage sales from 48 hours to a minimum of seven days plus automatic licence reviews for such premises;
-introduction of a fee for late-night licences to pay for the cost of extra policing;
-scrapping Alcohol Disorder Zones;
-permitting the consideration of policing and health concerns when assessing licence applications;
-increasing licence fees so that local councils can cover costs linked to enforcement;
-limiting the number of Temporary Event Notices that can be applied for in any one year.
